GastroFest 2015 - Jacksonville, Florida

On Saturday March 21, my husband and I had a hot date with some great tasting food. For the first year ever Hemming Park Plaza held home to GastroFest. A celebration of all things food in the Jacksonville/Northeast Florida area. With it being the first year we really didn't know what to expect. We paid in advance for the 4 star pass, which according to their website and social media entitled us to all you care to eat all day long at the festival. We could have got the 5 star pass, but we didn't think we would drink $40 extra each in alcoholic beverages. We got there early in the day, around 10:45 a.m. The festival was to begin at 11 o' clock a.m. We took a short walk around and vendors were still setting up and getting things ready. My husband recently hurt his back pretty badly a few days prior so we made haste to find a nice table located in the shade.

Right at around 11:15 we started taking turns going to the food tastes tents and grabbing small plates of food to try. Throughout the day we tried over twenty different dishes from various restaurants and food vendors. Our most outstanding dishes we tried were the fried green tomatoes from 29 South (we got this twice, it was so good!), the braised lamb from Taverna, the meatball from Tapa That,  Here is a visual journey through all of the things we tasted and sampled that day.
